Tires

My car has stock 17" rims. I found some awesome rims that I want, that come in 17" and 18". I wanna get rid of that huge gap between my tires and the car itself. If I changed my tire size from the factory / stock 17's, to 18's, how much different is the ride / handling? I'm sure you've all changed your tires, I just gotta ask before I do.

That's what I was originally planning on doing, lowering the car. I don't really want to change the tires, especially because they're so expensive. Thanks for the input!

tires are 80 -100 bucks depending on the profile in 18" cheaper in 17"

wider front tires sure will improve handling, you will grip and fill the road more, and wider rear tires will improve traction. with my 255s i feel every lil rock and every crack on a road, and i love it. but to really improve handling you have to drop the car, get a set of shocks and springs.

Tires are expensive but lowering a vehicle can be expensive too. Along with the springs it is a good idea to do shocks/struts, caster/camber plates, (some recommend a bumb-steer kit), and definetly a good alignment. It is worth every penny though.

Yea, no kidding. When I got my Ford C Springs, I thought Hey cool, only $150. Then add shocks/struts (~$300-400), caster camber plates (~$200), shorter sway bar endlinks (~$40), and a good alignment (~$80). Technically you should also do X2 ball joints and a bumpsteer kit too. That's another $250 ish.

And that's to get a car that handles somewhat better. Then look in to the real stuff like a complete coil over kit for the front and back. Then think about the rear control arms/axle control, like a watts link or panhard bar.

If you need good replacement tires for a summer car, look in to General Exclaim UHP's. Amazing tires at a great price! Very resistant to spin, and are great in the water.

I know you want to get everything done ASAP. But take your time. Do it right the first time so you dont waste your $ and besides ALOT of the fun is the project itself.

That's why I came back on -- I wanted to ask, knowing what I have done to my car already (very little - catback + cold air), what do you guys suggest I do first? I'm gonna take it one step at a time, since there really is no other way.

finish ur exhuast crazy

you need ur headers, x pipe also look into a throttle body and then move onto to something else :smash:

you could get ur 18's now to if you wanted

go suspension first. if you are gonna get a F/I system you will end up having to change the intake, throttle body, fuels system, possibly exhaust, etc... Suspension will stay the same regardless
