In Vermont they actually use a paint/oil mixture or at least they used to. Seems like it would be a mess but if you're ever crawled under a car with a bad rear seal the metal is like new underneath the oil!
POR 15 in a paint gun thinned out - just mask EVERYTHING off real good!
+1..use gloves...also there is this stuff called "Zero Rust" if you can find it..Just like por-15 but half the price. Works great, There used to be a guy that sold it at the Truck show at the Saratoga county fair grounds every year
The only real way to stop it is never to drive it in the salt, because it gets anywhere and everywhere and will rust where you cannot get it coated. A friend of mine did that oil crap mix on his and try working on it after!! NOT fun!!
i definatley try not to drive it at all during the salty months but in the spring there is always left over salt on the roads etc so if i can help it in some way i would like to .
someone recommended a 3m spray on (comes in a rattle can) and it actually dries so its not one of those "oily" ones or whatever...might give it a wirl...its paintable too so i can spray it when im done if i want...
