This past year Performance Autosport of Richmond Virginia and veteran road racing driver Chris Cobetto embarked on a very difficult task – to win a NASA road racing championship in only one year with a brand new car. To achieve their goal they teamed up with Saleen Speedlab and other sponsors including HRE Wheels and Bully Dog to turn a stock 2011 Mustang GT into a full blown race car. Nine months and fourteen races later Performance Autosport and Cobetto had captured nine wins, 11 podiums, 5 poles and the NASA Mid-Atlantic American Iron championship.
Performance Autosport had the cameras rolling throughout the entire campaign, and have just released a documentary called “Rolling Start” showing everything from how the idea came about to the construction of the car to the final NASA championship race at Mid-Ohio and everything in between. The documentary is over 40 minutes long so you’ll need quite a bit of time to watch the whole thing, but it’s definitely worth the time. If you can only spare a few minutes, then head to the 31:00 minute mark to watch some fantastic race footage from the national championship race at Mid-Ohio where Cobetto finished second.
