This belt squeel is killing me!!!!!!!!!

My belt squeels when I start it & goes away after its been run for a bit.Its awfully annoying & Im not sure where to begin diagnosing it.The belt has maybe 200 miles on it.I have the March alt bracket & adj rod.Im just afraid of tightening it too tight.Right now its adj so the belt can be turned 90 deg.Should I remove my underdrive pulley & try it.It just sucks to try that because Ill need a new belt.Ant suggestions would be great.this noise really blows.Sounds like I hae a real pos (but I really dont)!

If your saying to remove the belt to check the pulleys for alignment than it seems its easier to eyeball w/ the belt on.other than that they spin by hand okay.

what kind of belt is it ? if ya can go to autopart international in schenectady or troy and get a bando belt hands down the best out there

Thanks.Ive got a Dayco belt right now from Advance auto.I was thinking a Napa belt but if you think a bando is better Ill have to ck it out.Where in Schdy are they?

i mean pull it off and spin all the pullys by hand to make sure its not them squeeling.

Hey does it only do it when its cold if so then it has something to do with the clutch plate. Mine drove me friggin insane if u have a warranty it should be covered

It does only do it cold.Once in a while it will do it warm but it is only a small chirp .My a/c doesent work so can I still blame the comp?Like I said,it only does it when starting so Im thinking its slipping when it first starts.

Possibly a bad tensioner. On initial start up it may be "stuck" then the belts motion frees it. So when you first start it the belt has some play, hence the squeak.

Remove the belt and work the tensioner, it should move freely and spring back into position when released.

could be tensioner pulley, if it is the belt spray some brake cleaner or something on it while it is running and see if it goes away...

Thanks for the input on the pulley and I WISH it was that easy but Ive got the March bracket with adj rod.Ive got it plenty tight.

put a dab of toothpaste on the belt, the mild abrasives will cut any glaze off the belt and cure the squeal. also makes your car feel minty fresh!

Interesting.Ill have to try it.I talked to someone & they said it was from the new 3g alt I put on.The alt has lot of drag at start up which makes sense since it never started until the 3g upgrade.

Just an idea. When you changed the pulleys out did you get a shorter belt?

I got a 72 in belt which is the shortest belt I can get on there.

Well my noise is GONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!ickle:
I went out and bought a Good Year gator grip belt & now its quiet as can be.I dont even have it as tight as the noisy one.The suggestion to get this particular belt came from a guy on another Mustang forum who I bought my real nice chrome 3G alt from.If anyone is in need of one I would suggest him.Great cust serv too.
Im soooo happy now!!!

I always run Gatorback belts, my friend had the same issue on his '04 Cobra and a Gatorback belt helped...

If you can turn the Belt 90 Degrees it not tight enough.
If you got it tensioned right it you should only be able to turn it
about 45 Degrees.If it still squeels after you retension it you may have
glazed the belt because it was slipping due to lack of tension.
Spray it with some WD40 while it runs cold and see if the squeeling if it goes away temporarily then starts to get noisy again then its glazed and needs replacement.
This could sound strange but I have seen a gauge to measure the depth of
a serpentine style belt to check for wear,if you know someone that has one or
maybe the jobber you use could check the wear on your belt to see how good it is.
But I would try to increase the belt tension first and go from their.

Well my freakin squeal is back.Its loud & annoying.When I disconnect the wiring to it is quiet.I just have to think its just too hard to spin & slips(170a).Think Ill go to advance auto & get a 130a alt & see if it quiets down.What a pita!!!
