Problem with my stang =(

Hey guys,
I'm hoping I can get a few suggestions on what this might be so I have some sort of idea before I take it to a shop and spend unnecessary money.

My car does this pulling back thing when I'm driving. It almost feels like the E-brake is up when I'm driving because it feels kind of laggy and sluggish. But the E-brake is not up. I was thinking maybe it doesn't release itself all the way. Also. When I'm driving , it feels as if I were to step on the break but i am not. It does this when I'm just cruising , not breaking or accelerating. Its been doing this for quite a while but has just recently gotten worse. It pulls back so much that I actually have moved in my seat. I'v never heard or seen anything like it in my life and the mechanic I usually goto says he never feels anything when he drives it, but it doesn't always do it.

Automatic. And I haven't used the e break in a few days. I only use it if I'm on a hill parked or something. And my breaks do smell but I just had them changed so I think that's why they smell.

I was thinking it was either the e break not releasing itself or the caliper on the passenger side in the back. It started smoking the day after the breaks were done and the mechanic I goto said it wasn't releasing itself but it did and since then it hasn't smoked. A little smelly on longer drives but no more smoke.

Your caliper is hung up it sounds like especially if you hear grinding. If its not the caliper sounds like you have some air restriction. I have it on mine cuz my flanges on my H pipe are crunched and rotted. It makes it seem like after i get on it it slows me down. Hope its the caliper cuz exhaust is not fun to toy with.

I hope it's just the caliper too. I was thinking of just getting an exhaust system anyway though. Hope the repairs don't cost me an arm and a leg though. I also found some rust today =/ ahhh

Could be a possible Transmission issue I feel. The Pulling effect right off reminded me of my old 3-series which would do that time to time, I learned that the transmission was slipping and dropping gears so it would lag the car. I didn't wana say anything but now you mention your tach issue it could be a possible connection. You don't mention any Check Engine lights or any warning / hazard lights so does pose a good mystery.

The tach gets it's signal from the ignition system. It has nothing to do with the transmission. Check the brakes and go from there.

I would have thought they run the crankshaft sensor through the transmission as a fail check, guess not. Thinking about it using the experience from a 3-series isn't the best as they're horribly put together and everything comes apart for all I know my suspension was tearing into peices and getting stuck...

i took stang to aamco , and i had the guy drive with me and finally they felt it (because i swear to you, it only does it when IM driving, and when someone else who knows what theyre talking about is in the car, it doesnt do it.) anyhow , it did it a bunch of times , and the guy from aamco told me that it was the torque converter ? but he said its not dangerous and if i want to i can replace the tranny but that wont get rid of the pulling completely, it will only get rid of it by like 80%. which is better than nothing because its constant and is SO annoying. but it doesnt make sense to me that if i replace the tranny completely that it would still do it ?

also , he said its always gunna do the puling a little because it has high milage. then i asked what if i replaced the tranny AND the motor. and he said it would still do it and its not 100 percent guarentee that it would stop. am i missing something or does it not make sense that if i replace both , it would still do it ??

i would go some where esle and have them check it and see what they say. those guys from aamco might be b.s.ing you.

Agreed on this, aamco isn't the most trustable source. For one definitely make sure the e-brake isn't frozen or stuck on. Lift the e-brake handle and see if you have a lot of slack in it. If you do then your e-brake is stuck. This was a problem with 05 (maybe 06 too) S197's. As for the RPM problem that could be a few things, I definitely wouldn't let aamco be the one's to decide what I need..

the next time u go for a ride in it .get out and touch all of the rims if one is too hot to tuch then u have bad caliper
