Please help (Diagnose)

Hello all, Ive been a member for alittle time now, I dont really post but I find reading through the forums and checking out the site to be really interesting. I am a small time mustang head since i purchased My 2001 V6 last summer. Anyway its nice to meet all of you and If possible Anyone know what this noise could be? it seems to be coming from the alternator or around. Id like to know alittle something before I get ripped of at the shop.

sounds like the bearings in your Alternator .. alternator is easy, go buy one, Disconnect your battery, unplug your old one, release the belt, take out like 2 bolts and put the new one in reversing the order of the prior steps ... allowing for hard to turn bolts you should be able to do this in 1/2 an hour.

are you talking about the wineding noise ? sounds like a bearing could be the alt ....

Sounds like a powersteering pump low on fluid as well. Does the sound get worse when you turn the steering wheel? Spray some PB Blaster on the berings of your alternator to see if it goes away. It will be a quick fix but probably wont last long. If not you may want to look at the waternator. I hear they go bad too.
