A contingent of Ford Mustangs Boss 302S race cars headed to Long Beach this past weekend for the third round of the SCCA Pirelli World Challenge series. Of particular note was the series debut of the Always Evolving race team, who brought out two brand new Boss 302S race cars for the event. Team drivers Erik Davis and Roger Rodas are rookies in the World Challenge, although they have competed in a variety of series previously. Joining the AE team were two more Boss 302S race cars from Capaldi Racing piloted by Ardee Toppe and Brad Adams, as well as an Autosport Development Boss 302S driven by Dane Moxlow, who ran under the Tiger Racing banner last year.
The weekend started out rough for the Mustangs, with Ardee Toppe suffering a minor collision in the first practice session and Roger Rodas hitting the wall hard in the second session. The Boss 302S had enough damage that it was unable to continue for the weekend, but thankfully the team had a backup car sent in and were able to get it ready in time for Sunday’s race.
Fortunately race day was much more uneventful, although not particularly successful. Capaldi Racing’s Brad Adams was the top finishing Mustang in 10th place, followed by Moxlow in 13th, Rodas in 16th, Davis in 17th and Toppe in 24th.
