Mike you know the new generation still fails you sound like the guy at best buy who had to eat his words when the xbox failed 10 seconds after he said it won't fail. Xbox's fail because people don't cool them down, if your playing in the middle of summer put a fan on my system. thats goes for any gaming console i run the ac when i play the ps3, thats why my system has survived so long !!!
One often overlooked factor when considering a console purchase is reliability, an area that is apparently where the Xbox 360 falls short. Anecdotal evidence is heavily pointing to Microsoft’s latest console as being significantly more prone to failure than what consumers are accustomed to.
Admittedly, when we saw Game Informer's survey that pegged Xbox 360's failure rate at 54.2 percent, we were thinking that was a bit steep of a number, possibly bumped up a few digits from some possible sampling errors. So when we were gearing up to read Microsoft's statement responding to the data, we fully expected some harsh rebuttal of the number. Turns out we got disappointed. A spokesperson for Redmond pointed to its superior entertainment value, its "best warranty in the industry" and its "constantly improving design, manufacture, and performance." At no point is there a dispute or even direct reference to the findings, which is really something that could've helped public perception on a nagging issue. How about taking a page from Fujifilm, eh Microsoft?

A new independent study by warranty seller SquareTrade has shown that out of over 1,000 units, the Xbox 360 [COLOR=#006400 !important][COLOR=#006400 !important]projects[/COLOR][/COLOR] a 16.4% failure rate with numbers expected to climb.
SquareTrade has noted that around 60% of the failed units have suffered from the infamous Red Ring of Death, which causes the system to be unplayable. This issue has been addressed by Microsoft and forced them to extend the warranty from 1 year to 3 years (a move that cost the company over $1 billion) as it is due to a manufacture defect.
