OK a bunch of symptoms

OK here goes ... first (which MAY have started everything) I ran the car out of gas ... seemed ok after .. then I changed the struts (which shouldnt have anything to do with it but I'll throw it in there) ... I had to use a huge screwdriver to break the nuts on the struts which might couldve pinched a wire :idk: ... so anyway cyl #6 when I pulled the plug it was SOAKED with gas ... did a leak down test and figured there was a leaking injector ... so I changed injector #6 ... still ran like crap ... did a compression test ... they all were about the same (a little low but about the same) ... it seemed ok above 2000 rpms ... then ... new symptom ... the tach was NOT reflecting actual engine RPM ... way too sluggish EX when the tach read 2000 the engine sounded like it was more like 3000 ... also the cats were glowing when I got to the body shop (thats a different story) ... ok so I am lost ... my experience is with this

Well, I can point you in a direction or two. Check the coil, because the tach gets part of it's signal from that voltage output, Are you sure cyl #6 is firing? Look at the cap and rotor, I am gonna say it is not mechanical because the compression checks out. More info on the year of the car and any other mods. I still bet #6 isn't firing. Oh, and glowing cats is a lean condition. Good luck bro.

sorry ... Im used to my info being visible ... 94 v6 so no cap and rotor ... its a coil pack... I am getting spark to that cylinder ... I have a "new" (to me) screamin demon coil on the way (I hope soon) I had a plug hooked up to that wire and had what looked to be decent spark. no other mods ... well except I took the egr tube out as one of the nipples was broken off ... but its been off since July or August ?? and has been running great

Your in luck, I am extremely familiar with that motor. It is most likely the coil pack since your tach is acting funny, there is also a cam position sensor. You have to mark the caps location before you remove it, but that can get dirty and screw up the signal to the coil pack. Also clean the crank position sensor, that can get pretty greasy. That #6 plug may be fuel fouled by this point, so you might want to change it. Number one thing is this EGR thing you removed. Not good. There are 2 smaller hoses that come off that tube and go to a little box lookin thing at the back of the manifold. That is your MAP sensor, and it needs to funtion properly. And yes, the car will run fine for a while, and a month or two later start acting funny. I don't know why this is , but it happens. Just be sure those hoses are good. Check your fuel pressure too just to cover all your basics. It should be about 38 PSI at idle with the vacuum line off and plugged. Hope you get it straightened out.

The reason I removed it was that one of the nipples (heh heh I said nipples) broke of that stoopit $200 freaking POS tube ... NOW ... what if I were to turn off the EGR in a tune ?? I have to get a chip as I think I am upgrading to duals ...

OK Good info ... thanks ... BTW "new" coil will be here Tuesday ... There is DEFINITELY something wrong with my cats ... stuff is rattling around in there like CRAZY ... so ... looks like I am buying an H pipe from Alex and hopefully a cat back from Kyle and his brother ... HINT HINT

LOL ... yeah no ... I have the H and a dynomax ultraflo catback ... OK UDATE TIME: I traced the problem back to the ECU ... I have a replacement ECU in place and will be taking 1/2 day today and all day tomorrow to do the exhaust and put the engine back together (Took the upper off to trace wires)

SHES ALIIIIIVE ... My stang is back ... duals installed but the H leaks at the manifolds ... I am going to put in some exhaust donuts Saturday !! she runs just like when I got it .. I want to get the Chip this weekand then she should be all set for a while ... (I need to concentrate on the Cougar)
