NGK Spark Plug Gapping

I swapped the old POS Autolite plugs out of my mustang and bought NGK platinums. My old sparks were gapped at .42 but its recommended that i gap my new ones at .54. Should i keep it at .42 or go bigg? Thanks

I gapped mine at .054" and run 16 degrees of base timing with the spout out.
