<div>Ford, with it’s famous and iconic GT40 and Cobra, holds a rich heritage in European road racing. Now after putting the Mustang through its paces on American soil, is prepared to take its pony car to battle against the best cars and drivers in the world on their own turf.<br />

The Belgian-Canadian racing effort, the Marc VDS Racing Team, will campaign the all-new 2010 Mustang in the FIA GT3 European Championship. This is where it will face its toughest challenge yet amongst a field of Aston Martin DBRS9’s, BMW Z4’s, Porsche 911 GT3 R’s, and Corvette ZO6R’s, among others. The GT3 had its official launch and unveiling in Gosselies, Belgium.<br />

The Marc VDS Team has roots with Ford Motor Company, campaigning a Ford GT in the FIA GT1 series. The team’s project partner, Multimatic of Canada, built the first Mustang which carries the chassis number MVDS001/001. Multimatic shook down the car at Ford’s European testing near Luton, Bedforsdshire before shipping it to the team in the United Kingdom.<br />
<br />
The GT3 Mustang weighs in at a respectable 1350kg (2975 lbs) and features a 560 horsepower, Ford Racing “Cammer” 5.3 litre V8 engine, through a six-speed sequential gearbox and a Quartermaster button clutch.<br />

Ford and the team believe with these horsepower levels, combined with the cars transaxle, will make it a strong contender right out of the gate. The GT3 sports a full carbon fiber body, and rides on MacPherson struts up front and a double wishbone rear with pushrods, and 4-way adjustable Dynamics suspension DSSV suspension. It gets its stopping power – very much an important factor in road racing – from AP Racing monoblock caliper brakes with PFC pads.<br />
<br />
The Marc VDS Racing Team, in conjunction with Multimatic, plans to build additional GT3’s to order, for customers race teams that are looking for a competitive, turn-key GT3 racing package. The price of the cars have yet to be determined but suffice it to say, this thing can’t be cheap. Belgian Eric De Doncker and Canadian Scott Maxwell will pilot the teams’ #98 car, while the driver lineup for the #99 has yet to be determined.<br />
