Insurance..or not

04 GT 40th anniv
Car needs:

1.Radiator support - bent in on one corner.
2.both pass side wheels - one has huge chunk, other has smaller chunk. They do hold air, but all bent/not pretty.
3.ebrake cable - got snagged on curb and locked brakes up, had to cut it to get the wheel moving
4.front bumper - dented/all scuffed up on one side
5.side skirt - cracked
6.missing foglight
7.headlight cracked
8.needs alignment, pulls to one side a little

not one scratch in the metal anywhere so its all bolt on pieces, still drives fine with no issues. Car slid into a curb sideways in the snow. nobody else involved. This is why you never let a friend borrow your car..EVER.

Whats the damage estimated at? im curious if i should go through insurance or just fix out of pocket. Just trying to get a rough estimate.

If you have full coverages I would use the insurance. If not it looks to be about $2500 in damages. That includes paint for the bumper and side skirt.

yah i have full coverage on everything i own, ever since i smoked a deer couple years back in my old car and had basic insurance.. 3600 damages out of pocket. SCORE!.......

nothing is out of wack or anything, but the rad support is bent in on the bottom corner. They wouldnt 'repair' something like that right? I want all new. A family friend owns a reputible shop so he'll be doing the work, once i get the check from insurance, maybe add in some extras like 10.5" rears on 315s, and a cobra front bumper. We'll see how much i have to work with.

Pay the 500. The damages are way more than that. Sounds like there is alot of labor there. The replacement bumper alone is probably more than the deductible. My front fasica was replaced new. Wicked extremes advice is excellent. Insurance ,use it if you got it. Its your car ,the decision is yours in any case. My car was repaired by FLOWERHILL AUTO ROSYLYN NY.

As for things to do...


1- move unscuffed rear wheel to pass front, get 10.5 rears
2- Smoked clearcorner headlights, or plain clearcorners
3- match the fogs to the headlights (if go with stock front)
4- Cobra front? Consider that witht eh cobra front, you will also need:
-foglights
-Bezels
-Chin spoiler
-Foglight pigtails
-Rad support cover

My advice is to go with Insurance. This is what you have insurance for, just make sure you have comprehensive coverage.

Yah i was thinking about a cobra front, but i realized its a little to much to do. I bought a GT, it'll stay that way.

So yes im buying:
-(2) 10.5" wheels with 315/35/17 tires
-smoked headlights, not the dark smoke. just looks factory without amber
-yellow fogs
-(2) ebrake cables
-sideskirt - used and have it painted. i want oem
-bumper - used and have it painted. i want oem
-alignment
-replace rad support, once i see how bad it truly is.

..so some minor goodies, and some fresh paint. i may just put the parts on and have the whole car sprayed in spring. This will be its first AND last winter anyhow, so might as well.


As for DED, he is going to 'make payments' on it. Im not worried about it. And yes i have full coverage, always will.

OMAR - what do you think a rough estimate in damages would be?

heres some pictures. Dont mind the dirty car..thats the least of its worries. Car goes to metro ford tmrw. Id still like to know on average what this should go for, so i can compare to there price..

rear rim:

front rim - doesnt look bad but its bent and leaks:

Ebrake cable kinked, mustve caught on curb. had to cut it to get wheel to break loose.

2300 damages, however thats with 'repairing' rad support. If bodyshop says its needs replacing (which they are) then its an extra money. So im getting close to 1800 in a check shortly, and then i can reinburst myself for buying all those parts and fix the bumper/side skirt (replace/paint)

in search for a side skirt, and bumper..plus a paint place which i can drop the 2 items off, have them sprayed an pick them up. Not dropping my car off anywhere.

Drop it off- youll want it paint matched.

I had some parts painted off the car and they look different then the rest- its because the rest of the paint is a bit weathered from the sun, and the new parts have the factory fresh color. EVERY color fades a bit, no matter what. Including the garaged SVTs.

thanks guys, as for matching its not an option. There is NO blending with my paint code, therefore it'd be a waste to lose time/rent a car for couple days. Im sure it wont match 100%, but it wouldnt if i dropped it either says 2 bodyshops.

So i backed out at last second at americanmuscle when i found some parts cheaper, elsewhere. Still ordered the headlights tho. Need some opinions:

Wheels:
I cant decide on black wheels or the factory grey. They dont match stock 100% from what ive read, therefore im buying 17x9 for the front, 10.5 for back. So black or grey?? Going with the 17" Bullitt wheels like i have stock but wider, with a 315/35 rear. Also how does a 245/45 look on a 9" rim? It says to run a 275/40 but people say they rub. So a 255/40 is next up isnt that same as a 245/45, which i now have 4 of with 15k miles.

Foglights:
anybody run ebay fogs? there 60 bucks with bulbs, vs AM 120 w. bulbs and look identical.

Thats all.. Rest i made up my mind on!
