When you hear of a local Ford dealership putting on a car show, you might imagine a few dozen customer cars that are mostly stock and maybe a few classic Mustangs – maybe even a Shelby or two. But Galpin Ford is no ordinary dealership. In fact, they’re the largest volume Ford dealership in the world more than twenty years running and sell more Mustangs than anyone. So when Galpin puts on a car show, expect big things.
Galpin’s first car show was put on to celebrate Shelby’s 50th anniversary last year, and the result was the largest gathering of Shelby Mustangs we had ever seen. This past weekend’s encore was no less impressive, with the show celebrating 60 years of customizing at the dealership. Many of Galpin’s highly modified SEMA show cars were on hand, from the 1969 Mustang Fastback actually constructed at the show to the supercharged widebody Mustang Boss 302-X. Of course, dozens of customer cars also showed up to fill up the dealerships’ parking lots.
Galpin also opened the doors to their private collection of custom cars and hot rods, showcasing vehicles built by famous names such as Ed “Big Daddy” Roth, Von Dutch and George Barris. A few Mustangs were on display as well, including the all original 1965 Shelby GT350 “Barn Find” and the wild 1969 Mustang Mach IV dragster that Galpin sponsored back in the 1970s.
