Ford officially unveiled the 2013 Mustang Cobra Jet at the PRI Show late last year, offering the 5.0-liter V8 engine to the turn-key drag racer for the first time since it was introduced in 2008. Since then the Ford Racing team has been hard at work getting the new Cobra Jet ready for production, and now it looks like that time has come. Earlier today Ford Racing sent us over these new images of the first two 2013 Cobra Jet production engines recently assembled at the Romeo Engine Plant. The two 5.0-liter V8s will soon be heading over to the Auto Alliance International (AAI) assembly plant – the same factory that the production Ford Mustangs are built – where they will be installed in 2013 Cobra Jets.
Ford Racing will be offering two version of the 5.0-liter V8 in the 2013 Mustang Cobra Jet, as pictured above. A naturally aspirated version is set apart with a unique Cobra Jet intake manifold and larger throttle body while a forced induction version if fitted with a 10-rib Whipple 2.9L supercharger. Each 5.0L V8 also features CNC ported heads and more aggressive cams.In addition to the new engine options the 2013 Cobra Jet benefits from additional improvements compared to previous years including lightweight body components, electric power steering, a new roll cage, improved braking and new rear suspension geometry.
The naturally aspirated 2013 Cobra Jet retails for $86,000 while the supercharged variant comes in at $93,000.
