emissions Q

hey guys this my o2 sensor right ??? if i got a stock h pipe with cats and hooked these up do you think my car will pass emisions inspection ... i have no smog pump though .. car is all stock besides the exhaust ... would i need to do anything else besides hook up the sensors /????? thanks fellas

If you're completely stock minus the smog pump, why would you disconnect the o2 sensors? The car will revert to what's know as FMEM mode which is the EEC-IV's version of failsafe. Fortunately the EEC-IV equipped cars will still run decent like this, but you're wasting gas at part thottle and light/moderate load conditions. Under full throttle the ECU ignores inputs from the o2 sensors, HOWEVER will base the fuel needed on a WOT run based on tables stored in the KAM. If your o2 sensors are disconnected those tables are not updated and your adaptive strategy is not working......

dude im sorry i didnt mention i now have an x pipe that the sensors are connected to .. i dont want to diconnect them .. i want to swap the x for a catted h to try to pass emmisions ...

Ahh....understood now, lol.

It'll pass the dyno, but you may have an issue with a visual depending on the shop WRT the smog pump.

You should be alright if you don't go somewhere like Monro, or Cole muffler, or some big name brand place where they will be dick heads about it and have to look at it with a fine tooth comb. I would try to find a mom and pop place to get it inspected. I went to a place like that and the guy didn't open the hood or put the car on the lift. Just looked at it, and said I was good to go. Oh, and I did NOT know these guys or anything like that either... just my two cents...

differece is he gets a real/dyno emissions test in queens, not the "is the check engine light on" test we get upstate on 1995 and back.

You might be ok, alot of people do not run the smog pump and still pass. It all depends on whats done to the car really and what running condition it is.
