changing my oil

im going to change my oil today and i plan on adding the lucas oil treatment into the mix. Any suggestions as to which weight of oil i should use? my motor has 100k on it and i just went syn mobil 1 10w30 about 1000 miles ago. i want to change it because i know that oil flushes out the motor. also usually use a motorcraft filter. let me know what you guys think, will bumping up to 15w30 be too much? thanks

I would stick with the 10w30 mobil 1 syn and add the lucas to it.

No need to change it yet. I'd stick with 10w30 and no additives at all.

is it the rule of thumb to change your oil within 1000 miles of the first change to synth?

No it is not. I would run syn. 10w-30 if your car does not loose/burn any oil between changes. If it does, then step up up to 10w-40 syn. Always mobil 1, or amsoil or royal purple. I always us mobil 1. Motorcraft are good filters to use also.

If your worried about gunk build up in the motor from previous owners there is nothing wrong with changing the oil early

thanks guys for the input, everything went smooth as it should. I went with the mobil 1 10w30 and the motorcraft filter(although the k+n one was calling my name also) no complants...the oil didnt even look bad, i just really like to know where i stand when it comes to my cars. the cold air filter didnt look too nice though:nono: time to order one and save it for after storage
