Best Mustang Exhaust -- Classic

The Stang has some stock exhausts, which sounds not too bad, but man does that carbon monoxide hit you hard when you are warming it up! The convertible with the top down doesn't help much either LOL.

So, I wanted to get that mean sounding mustang classic exhaust that makes the mustang sound like a mean american muscle car. Ive been doing a lot of research and found the 2.5 kit from flow master is pretty good, but the question is which one is the best for the mean sound? there are so many flow masters! I keep looking at this video for a classic stang, and I'm blown away by the monster exhaust and sound it makes.

its running too rich at idle.

You got to remember that car had a 347 motor in it and decent cam that's why it sounds that way. The best exhaust is to find someone that has an exhaust sound that you like and ask them what they have. It also depends if your going to put headers on and h or x pipe, it all changes the sound. Personally I don't like flowmasters, but that's me.

Good post and points, As noted the fumes could be tuning related,it also could just be that due to no emissions, computer controls,etc. The car smells different than what you are used to. My older cars smell different than my newer cars.

As far as the exhaust it is tough to make a recommendation in terms of sound as it really depends on what sound you are looking for. An important thing to consider is that Convertibles have a different floor pan setup underneath. They have very large lower seat boxes and there is a tie in plate. This comes in to play when selecting an exhaust I'm pretty certain that 2 1/2" is too big for your application.I could be wrong as I've never run an exhaust that large on an early vert.

Exhaust fumes that burn your eyes they are so strong indicate a lean condition. Most people assume a rich condition from strong exhaust smell when it is not always the case.

My fathers friend has a full Magnaflow kit with 1 3/4 long tubes on his 67 Vert.

My (long gone) 68 GT Coupe I had a 302 w/a stock bottom end & heads, hotter cam, aftermarket intake, & headders, & staright out the back exhaust system with cherry bomb glass packs that sounded awesome. Nice rumble espicially when you got on the throttle.

Looks like I made a mistake and mislead this post, I was actually just inquiring about the exhausts and what kind of magnaflow would be best. Yes the fumes aren't that bad but it definitely has a strong, recognizable, odor.... So many magnaflow exhaust series, just curious which one every1 thought was the best.
