5.0 ranger cam suggestions

Is the tranny stock? If yes I'd use stock Mustang HO cam. If not the TFS Stage 1 works well with those heads. TFS spring kit is also a good upgrade. As far as rockers, 1.6 FRPP or Scorpion, etc are fine.

B303 w/1.7 rockers or F303 w/1.6 pretty close cams and I think if you go on the Corral, there's a few dyno sheets comparing GT40 iron headed 302's with those cam's and like a TFS stage 1 where there was really no gain.
I for one had a B303 in my cobra GT40 and it really woke the motor up. with 3.73's, the typical bolt ons, and slicks, it went 12.8@106.x weighing 3350.
Reason for suggesting the FMS alphabet cams is because you can probably get used ones for dirt cheap. I for one gave away a B-cam with a motor I sold. And depending on what your plans are for the future, you may not want to spend too much on a cam now but at the same time get improved performance over the stock HO cam.
Last suggestion is, get a pedestal to stud mount kit and get stud mount rockers. If you plan to upgrade heads to a stud mount, you'll be able to reuse the rockers.

The only reason I didn't say the FRPP cams was due to the auto and I assume stock converter. If going 5spd for sure it won't matter but it will be soft down low for sure, even the TFS Stage 1 will have a touch less torque. As far as peak hp they are all pretty close. Really the stock HO cam with 1.7 rockers works awesome with GT40P. And XE258 would be a great cam too.
Hmm, my bad I missed the comment on the auto but I get your point. I don't have any experience with the autos. What rpm do the stock converters lock up on? Does the stock ho cam really make significantly more torque down low than a alphabet cam?
Any of those cams will make decent power. I know that the F303 has made some real good #'s with TFS heads as well. I had ported TFS on my 331 and wish I had kept it and went with a custom grind or AFM cam but didn't get too. You have to decide if you will stay auto or not. If you have traction issues maybe losing some low end might not hurt.
