Official word has come from Ford Motor Company that the new 2011 Mustang 3.7-liter V-6 has achieved 31 mpg on the highway and 19 mpg in the city. This is amazing news considering no other vehicle in history has achieved 300 plus horsepower and 30 plus mpg rating. Yes you read that right the 2011 Mustang V-6 is the first car ever to achieve such numbers putting it in a class all by itself. Early estimates when the 2011 Mustang V-6 was introduced put the miles per gallon at 30 but as the final fuel economy tests were performed this week by the EPA Ford was given the good news their little pony achieved 31 mpg's.
Helping make these fuel economy numbers a reality are a few subtle changes that go along way beginning with the new Electric Power Assist Steering (EPAS) system that eliminates drag on an engine-operated hydraulic power steering pump putting less strain on the engine. Also a first for the V-6 Mustang, a six-speed transmission allows lower cruising revs and keeps the engine sipping less fuel. Another area having a helping hand is the improvements in the aerodynamics of the new front fascia, tire spats on the rear wheels, modified underbody shields, a taller air dam and an added rear decklid seal.
These changes along with others to the 2011 Mustang V-6 have really out done the competition and set a precedent for many to follow as Ford leads the way into the future.
