1989 mustang 5.0 gt40p head/ gt40 intake

I need some help(advice),
My mustang will be getting an engine rebuild, but I thought I might as well "upgrade" some parts while the engine is apart. So far from what i got from searching is:

GT40 Upper and Lower Intake manifold
70MM Throttle Body
GT40P Heads
Replace stock springs with Trick Flow upgraded springs
1.6 Proform Roller Rockers
Trick Flow Stage 1 Cam
ARP Head bolts

Do I need to replace any other parts on the GT40P heads ?
Any other parts that needs to be replaced, PLEASE!! enlighten me. Thank you. This will be a daily car.

Unless you have the p - specific headers for the heads you will need to get those too. Changing the spark plugs for those heads are pita from what I hear. The stock injectors will be enough for hp you are looking at but I would think about upgrading the fuel pump though. You might as well go for a 255 lph pump as there is only about 15 to 20 bucks difference from the smaller pumps to the 255.

Trick flow springs will be a good upgrade for the stock springs. You will need a push rod length checker to see what size you will need and once you find the correct length you will need a set of hardened push rods.

Is it a real gt40 intake or an explorer intake? You will most likely need to drill and tap for the return egr coolant line and for the act sensor, as well as block of some extra vacuum lines.

You are getting a new timing chain and lifters right? All the necessary gaskets will need to be included too. You can ditch the smog bs, with a shorter belt and two bolts, one for each head to plug where the lines used to go.

I'm sure I'm missing a few things..

I would also install some new lifters and pushrods while I was at it. I would also go with 30lb. injectors for plenty of headroom. The 93 cobra even came with 24's with gt 40 heads and cobra intake. No way 19's will work with your add-ons.

For fuel injectors i was thinking of 24. But I'm not sure.

Yeah the Explorer intake will need a few holes drilled and tapped for the egr return coolant line and act sensor and a few extra vacuum lines will need to be blocked off.

I went with an Edelbrock double roller timing chain, not sure of the part number, I got it from CJ Pony Parts. The lifters are just OEM hydraulic roller, Ford Racing lifters are around 120 I believe, and I got those from Summit Racing.

You can get bigger injectors, but you will need to get a matching maf for them too. I've seen people with similar combos be fine with 19 injectors. Unless you plan on a tune, I would not get bigger injectors than 24 for your combo. Any bigger and you will definitely need a tune. You may need a tune anyhow, but it depends on how the car is acting. Also a tune would get the most out of your setup. It's all up to you. If you plan on keeping it a 302, but later want to get better heads, than I would definitely say get the 24s and matching maf.

You will want a tune. No sense in adding such bolt-ons as cam, heads, intake, etc. without one. The car will run better and you will maximize your HP. Also go with the larger injector. Leaves you room for future mods. Much cheaper to recal the mass air than to keep swapping out injectors, especially if using C&L meter.

I agree that a tune would be best, it shouldn't be too hard to find a tuner down there. But please don't go with any C&L meters, I have seen many bad stories about their mafs. Pro M make really good mafs, to get it reprogrammed for a different injector it costs 100 bucks.

You will hear stories about some parts either being good or bad. What works for some may not work for others. I am basing my response on my own personal experience . I guess I'm one of the lucky ones as far as the C&L meter. Have one on my 90 that's making over 500rwhp on a mustang dyno without meter problems. There are people out there that do NOT know where to locate the meter. I have seen a ton of cars out there with elbows in front of the meter. That is something that should never be done. It is always best to place the meter right after the filter before any bends. Another problem is placing the air intake in an area that is susceptible to air turbulence. Big no no!
