174 Lean Code?

Had the car out lastnight...parked it for a bit and then on start up the service engine soon light came on...got the code checked. was a lean code....cleared the light. drove about 40 miles and parked it...

started up today a few times n drove with no code...went to wash the car. on start up. the service engine light came back on...my air/fuel ratio is right where its always been

ne idea's what could be causeing this? :nono:

its a PO174 bank 2 code?... car idle/ runs fine. isnt making any noises or acting different. just the stupid light....this is going to drive me nuts.

im assuming p0174. how do you know your a/f is good? check all the pcv elbows for cracks

Well my inovate wideband 02 is reading like it always has....pcv elbows?...as in the rubber connections?

yea the rubber elbows like to get dry rotted

there are numerous reasons bad o2, not getting enough fuel, and believe it or not a dirty MAF can throw this code as well from waht you have described i would clean the MAF and go from there.

do you have a xcal? if so use the data logger and check your fuel trims. you can also swap 02 sensors from one bank to the other. if the lean code moves then you got a bad o2.

Sat morning i cleaned the MAF and re tightend the hoses connecting to the MAF....so far 80+miles and no code...still makes me nervous tho, i've been driving it like an ol' lady.

and the light is back on...FML!!!

cars going up the street tomarrow to see if they can look at it...if not it's going to have to head back to kennedys to have bob figure it out :-(

Like said above, you need to check the fuel trims.

if i dont have an xcal then the only other way would be to bring it to bob right?

Anyone that has an Xcal or Predator, or even good diagnostic equipment can check that for you.

Well... changed the fuel filter(knew this wasnt it but felt like it should do it ne way)...and put in a new bank 2 o2 sensor, cleared the light......60miles later andd it's back on:nono:

as for the fuel trims. what should they be at? id

P0171 and P0174 can be multiple things but usually caused by fuel trims that are greater than 15%, so a lean condition for one reason or other. Double check all the vacuum lines, PCV, anything after the MAF basically.
