Best gears for Long Island Mustangs!

I'm waiting for the Spring and am still undecided. I talked to a couple of local new edge owners and they love their 3.73's in a manual (nobody had 4.10's). If you have a manual, take me for a cruise :awesomework: I just bought 17x10.5 wheels with Nitto NT555 tires and a SCT tuner. Just...

Best gears for Long Island Mustangs!

I did some further research and 275/40/17 is the largest tire I should put on the stock wheel. Still torn on the gear ratio though!!

Best gears for Long Island Mustangs!

    Gotcha, I just watched a Z06 video with a 5th gear start...then proceeded to exceed 150mph lol

Best gears for Long Island Mustangs!

I do realize 315 is relates to the tire size. I try to make relatively wise financial decisions and rims were never on my list. But I'll consider them if it relates to performance. I watched some Mustang 4:10 vids and most seem to shift close to red line. My car has a nice scream at 4,000...

Best gears for Long Island Mustangs!

Love your car BTW! My Father is 78 and his DD in Tucson is a 96 Cobra  I don't technically need tires/rims, but I'd want to get the most out of gears and sticky rubber seems almost a necessity. So I'd get 3:15's and would need compatible wheels.

Best gears for Long Island Mustangs!

Sorry for being so naive. So $500 gears may be more like $1,500 after new wheels/tires. The "black deep dish bullitt" 17x10.5 wheels from AM.com look nice. Can I get smaller front rims and keep my current front tires? Or maybe stay as is, go with 3:73's and hope for the best...

Is a 315 compatible with my stock rims?

Best gears for Long Island Mustangs!

Thanks man, was thinking of an SCT tuner. Hopefully I'll feel gains with just a catback, x-pipe, CAI, and gears.

Best gears for Long Island Mustangs!

Thanks again to everybody for the advice. I try to drive when traffic is minimal (rip up Sunrise Hwy. at 6 AM on occasion). Park/highways are sometimes to South Hampton or East from Merrick in general. I always try to avoid rush hour. I'm going to talk to some dudes at the Captree or Bellmore...

Best gears for Long Island Mustangs!

Are Nitto's tall enough? Definitely like the look of fat rear tires, preferably with RWL. Joe at Mustang Magic said he quickly switched from an MGW to Steeda shifter on his Termi, but I've read so many great things about the MGW.

Best gears for Long Island Mustangs!

Thanks, is it ok to drive Nittos during all seasons? I think I'll barely take it out in the Winter, but will drive plenty from April-Nov. Any tires available with raised white lettering (I have stock wheels)? I like the old school look. Mustang Magic will likely do the install, but I was...

Best gears for Long Island Mustangs!

Thanks, please keep the opinions coming! I take it that nobody thinks that gears aren't worth it. I've done the exhaust and intake. Will probably add an MGW shifter and stop there if I can.

Best gears for Long Island Mustangs!

I apologize in advance for another gear thread. My search showed the last one of any substance was about a year ago and I wanted to solicit opinions more specific to LI driving conditions. I'm in the South shore of Nassau where there's plenty of traffic and not of lot of opportunities to open...

    04 GT - 18,000 miles, 5 speed

Thanks guys. Funny that a minor thing like Sirius radio also makes me want to keep this car. The prior owner passed on his radio which I also listen to at home and in my other car. I'm often torn between cranking commercial free rock or enjoying the exhaust sound. :D

    04 GT - 18,000 miles, 5 speed

UPDATE 1/30/11 - Well I got a couple of feelers from this post and never listed the car elsewhere. I've since bought 17x10.5 anthracite deep dish rear wheels wrapped with Nitto 555's plus a Mach chin spoiler. Also have an SCT tuner and leaning on having 4.10's installed when I take her out...

    Looking for a Mustang GT/Mach 1

Hey, I have an 04 GT and would actually love to move up to an S197. I plan on keeping it a few more years, but let me know if you have an interest. Crimson red with the true anniversary package ($895 option). $1,500 worth of tasteful mods. Magnaflow catback, catted x-pipe, & JLT CAI. It's a...

Big "A" Detailing:04 40th Aniv. Mustang GT Correction 116 px

I'm the new owner and was actually kind of naive as to how bad the paint was. It needed much more than a basic detail job and Andrew took the time to do it right! I wasn't too keen on bringing the car to Queens, but I felt Big A was the right guy after reading this forum and others. The...

    Magnaflow w/ which midpipe? NEWBIE!

Hmm, I was told a Prochamber can pass inspection with a proper tune - these all have no cats. Should I expect unpleasant odors from all o/r mid-pipes? Besides driving a V8, I try to be environmentally conscious :) Thanks.
