Auto 4.10s all the way, stick the common consensus is 3.73s but i know pleanty of people with 4.10s and a manual that don't have any problems with them besides MPG lol.

I've heard that at least with the 6-speed transmission in the new S197s that 1st gear is pretty much rendered useless with 4.10s. I guess 3.73s are make 1st gear a little bit more useable. That doesn't really matter for the OP though since he's got a 5-speed which has longer gears anyway. I know I'll be going with 3.73s when I get the chance to upgrade.

Yikes! With that budget my honest opinion would be just to get the axle now and than swap your gears and do a rebuild kit along with it once you save up more money.

Yes you are correct. From my understanding the individual gear ratios in the MT-82 are different then in the TR-3650, so you'll have to correct them for any comparison to the TR 3650 for example.

Up through the first four gears, having only 3.31's with the MT-82 is is about equal to having 4.10's in a car with the TR-3650. 3.73's with a MT-82 roughly 4.56's in a TR-3650 car.

So far the best I have been able to find is around $700 for the whole axle and that is with 3.31s, 3.55s cost a bit more than that since not many came with them in it

probably a vortech or procharger kit. i have been hearing that my 7.5 can hold up with those kits but id rather be safe and if gears and a t-lok would cost just as much with an install might as well just get the new rear end?

Drone has nothing to do with gears. It has to do with the exhaust. It is just sound waves reverberating from the mufflers back to your exhaust valves IIRC.

Get them professionally installed though and go with FRPP gears. The motive ones are good but are louder (gear whine) than the FRPP gears.

I have 4.10's on my automatic. car sounds beasty on the highway with the O/D off. Put it into overdrive nas it's pretty much the same as with the 3.73's/ had those too.
However, with the 4.10's with O/D off, the car makes that sweet back pressure noise when you let off at about 60mph.

if you can find an 8.8, great! If not, get a detroit trutrack or an Auburn positive traction diff- they will hold up much better then the FRPP T-lok, and be much stronger then a factory 8.8

i was looking into buying the 4.10 gears for my 06 gt and u guys answered most of my questions thanks but i have 1 more......is there any negative side affects i can expect after installing these 4.10 gears (i have a automatic)?

A MPG loss and you pounding your head for wishing you didn't do it sooner lol

And not really a substantial loss at that. From what I hear maybe a 2-3 MPG difference IIRC.

You don't really have to unless the bearings and clutch plates in your rear end are shot but for the extra 50 bucks I would rather have the peace of mind knowing that everything in my rear end is new and won't break. Don't forget we have a discount with American Muscle.
