A Cold Air Intake kit adds HP? I cant imagine how?

It might just be a pipe and a big filter on it, but it really does make a difference. They are designed to pull in more air and at lower temperatures then your stock air box. This increase in air helps ignitions greatly, as the main mixture is air eg 10:1 compression 10 units of air for 1 unit gas. To get a real result you need to get a proper tune to utilize the CAI. I have an 07 V6 with the FRPP CAI and its worlds better then the stock setup I had it, with the new Mustangs 05+ you need to tune or you can end up with a CEL or experience loss of power as the car is completely computer controlled. Cold Air Intakes simply are the best bang for your buck upgrade you can do to your car.
If it says so on the box it MUST be true.
Ya they help but not quite like advertised. If we believed what was promised on the box then we'd get over 500hp from exhaust, CAI, boxed Breenspeed tune & underdrive pullys.
It would be interesting to do a baseline dyno pull before install then another pull to prove any gains.

all that incoming air isnt going to do any good if you cant get it out too. i would say a decent set of headers are better bang for your buck than a cai, but the great debate is cai vs wai lol i have a wai and it does its job fairly well, although it really doesnt do much of anything better than having my stock airbox just sitting there without a tube.
I TRACK tested multiple different combos and with a foxbody the stock airbox/K&N drop in with removed silencer is as good or BETTER than anything else. Even with the 331 NA in my 93 LX it provided enough airflow.
On a stock 5.0 ...time tested and proven gains
K&N drop in with silencer removed
underdrive pulleys
12-14* timing (stock is 10*)
gears ( 3.55-4.10 depending)
Then after those, full exhaust will gain you some more. The above mods on a 88 LX I ran 13.74@103 with exhaust as well. With slicks it would have been low 13's easy.
