i also need a cam... but i have new heads

so I have a trick flow street upper and lower, and just bought some brand new edelbrock e-street 1.90 heads and now I need some 1.6 rr's and a cam....

I was looking towards the tfs stage 1 cam but not really sure.... someone had also mentioned the Comp Cams XE264HR any ideas? please keep in mind it is my daily during the summer and I do not race it.....

did you post this on the corral as well? i could have sworn i read this,this morning..Tfs stage 1 is a good cam..Not exactly sure about the XE264HR..I had a lunati 51014 on my old set up good cam as well

Like Bone said, whats the budget and what you are wanting out of it? Daily driver summer car a stock cam with 1.7 is not awful, TFS Stage 1 is a good cam I had that in my 331. If you have a higher budget you could go custom. So many ways to skin the cat so to speak.

BTW, I have some 1.6 Harland Sharp rockers for sale in classifieds.

hahaha yes posted on corral as well... the car is my daily driver in the summer time. I have a bit of money to spend nothing too crazy I just want decent power from low to mid rpm i dont really rip on the car to redline ever. SOMETIMES though hahaha just looking for some input and what people think i should run to get a good running daily with decent power.

Do your self a favor and throw a kenne bell on it with low boost..Forget the cam,the 10-15 horsepower your going to net from a cam you will be over it in a couple of days..Just my 02...

I have done the h/c/i on cars, superchargers on stock motors, etc. it's all close. Like I have said before I like the stock cam but that's just me.

They are fun on the street but unless you can find one used they are overpriced to me. I have installed a few and they are reliable as hell but over $3k new now. The older 1.5L unit was more than enough for a street car and actually better at 9lbs of boost and under than the 2.2 or the 2.1 is. But they didn't want to keep making it for that one application I think.

well... if a cam is not needed maybe ill stick with the stock one for now. any suggestions on tuning it? I was thinking about a sct 4 bank chip but people have been saying they suck.

Toss some 1.7 rockers on for some added lift. The stock cam works nicely with a supercharger later as well. Why are people saying SCT chips suck? It is all in who is doing the tuning. On the older pre OBD II Fords you need to either use a twEECer, Moates QH, or a snEEC to datalog all data. You can tune them by just logging the A/F, RPM, and MAF volts though. I have done it like this and it works ok.

The issue with some places that do tuning is that they are just going for the #'s on a dyno and not paying attention to the part throttle and driveability.

Someone that has access to a SnEEC or uses a Moates QH to tune with would be your best bet. Your combo is not that hard and probably could be dialed close just off a base tune depending on the MAF you use.

My friend used a C&L 76mm intake system on his 94 GT and it worked quite well. His car ran great even without a tune I used a Steeda #19 in his car. If you get 24lbers get the NEW style pencil ones.

so you are suggesting stay with my stock cam, and injectors? if so I think I will get a bigger MAF cal for 19# because the other half of the intake is bigger already (t-body etc is 75 mm)

as far as that sct 4 bank set up I just read that people dont like it. I think because its a chip and you cannot change things like you can with other tuners. My buddy has an Anderson PMS tuner and he can do all sorts of stuff with it but he has a blower and spray. anyways i am leaning towards the sct with a base tune from bama and then take it and get someone good to burn a better tune and store that in there.

I appreciate the help because this is all uncharted water for me as far as the build goes. :rock:

You can change MORE with a chip regardless of whether it is a SCT/Diablo/Sniper/Moates/etc. Those that are telling you otherwise don't know what they are talking about. My car had a PMS version 4 in it, it is not a bad setup but for $1000 there are better ways to spend your $$. The real time adjustments are nice but you have MORE limiter with a PMS than a custom tune via a chip.

With the PMS you can do some cool things with nitrous setups and you also can use a 3 bar map for boosted tuning. BUT, I still prefer a chip with a GOOD tune.

The only guy I ever dealt with (before I started doing my own cars) was Don @ LaSota Racing. He is really good with tuning the 94/95 cars.

If you just get the 24lbers and matching MAF you will likely be ok without a tune right away but you will gain more with one. Another option would be to buy a Moates QH and have someone tune it remotely.

The QH is the BEST thing for tuning EEC-IV cars IMHO, it allows REAL TIME tuning and datalogging. Here is a video showing it being used with Binary Editor and EEC Analyzer.

I just picked up a C&L 76MM MAF with a 24# and 30# tube, my e-street heads arrived, and I am thinking I will order the 24# injectors (ford racing as suggested) and i am looking into the proform rockers. I want to change the cam but funds got real tight so I may just stick with the stock cam.

Will 1.72 rr's work well with those? or should I go for the 1.6's?

no joke....trick flow stage 1 cams and some similar comp cams sell for $100 used...grab one

will make a big difference in your combo, why spend the $ to do it twice
