Need Help setting my amp

That is a really hard question to answer without hearing it.

My best recommendation is to start with the bass control all the way down.

Adjust the LPF (low pass filter) till you get the mids to an acceptable sound.

Slowly turn up the bass control until it starts to distort, then back it down a bit.

Do all this with the volume at midway. This should give you a good starting point.

k i kinda had the same prob with my sub. what i've heard to do and what i've done is to turn the volume to a little bit past where you usually would crank it to, so if you listen to it normally at 20, turn it to 22. then go to the amp and tune it to where it seems to being hitting the hardest and sounding best, without blowing it obviously, im talking about the gain and freq from the amp. now if you have bass boost or EQ on your radio you might have to tune the gain a little less cause the bass/EQ on your radio if you have it gives it a little more gain/power. compensation...pretty much. if the bass sounds muddy or unclear you need to tune the gain/power to the sub down a bit.

I tried everything you guys said but it still doesnt seem right, I believe its something from the radio. What should I have these settings set at? See the thing is i had my amp installed a while back when i had the shaker radio, so they used a line out convertor for the amp. So i cant use the sub woofer output to control the subs. Here is what I have now:

I am going to find the thread I posted about when I changed my head unit utilizing the factory amps and speakers.

My radio; pioneer fb700, has 4 pre outs. So if I want to add another amp or 3 I just run rca's from the HU to the amps, splice into the Remote turn on and BAM, all done.

The harness I used also had the 5v regulator needed to prevent amp pop on the s197 that has the shaker.

Well for one if u hav a line out convtr I think that replaces the remote wire for the radio to the amp. This is what I'd do....
1. I'd run a remote wire to amp ( if it's not there already)
2. I'd run a RCA cable from the amp to the amp. ( this allows u to customize and tune the sub from the radio).....
that's all I can think of for now then again I'm half asleep night lol...

Oh yea and u can turn loud ON just gives u a lil more treble and tiny bit more bass. On one of the pictures it has Customize next to I think a equalizer looking screen. I'd mess with that cause worse comes to worst, u set everything back to default if something were to go wrong.

Hey thanks for the info, currently they wired the remote to the line out convertor box and the rcas are also connected to the line out convertor box, if i pull the rca's out and put it in the subwoofer input for the radio, it doesn't work? what do you think the problem is here? if i completly remove the line out convertor, where do i hook up the remote to?

K the remote wire goes from the amp to the back of ur radio. There should be a green ( usually ) wire. That's the remote. ThE remote wire from the radio tells the amp to turn on. Does ur amp turn on? the RCA has red/ white wires ( usually ) . Make sure that they are hooked up correctly red to red in the back of radio and red to red on the amp. Same goes for white. Check the ground wire to the amp as well. Caus that'll also cause the amp to not turn on. And lastly sometimes in the settings if the radio it has a menu for the amp basically looks like this


Subwoofer : ON. OFF.
Make sure that's on. Otherwise I'm coming to jersey and kicking your radio in the face . :)

ok so now my sub is directly connected to the radio. I can control the sub from the headunit.

So now I have the EQ set to powerful, should i turn both HPF and Loudness off on the headunit?

and then keep the amp at 80hz and now mess around with the gain?

its up to u, as long as it works lol, i have my HPF On and loudness on and i just play with gain on the amp. i think its diff. for all cars so u can try stuff to see what works/sounds best for your car. :awesomework:out

I think the loudness should be off on the head unit. It is for giving the bass a boost when playing the radio at low volume. I would put the volume on the head unit at about 3/4 volume and adjust the gain on the amp to where it sounds best to you. :2cents:
