There are only so many places that a car can safely reach 200 mph, one of which is the Nardo Ring. Located in Southern Italy, the 7.8-mile high speed oval has been a testing ground for the world’s fastest supercars. Last June, though, it got a little taste of American muscle when SVT engineers took the 2013 Shelby GT500 to the track to perform high speed stability and breaking tests. There was a very specific goal as well, as we later learned from Jamal Hameedi, SVT’s chief engineer. “We told the guys to not bother coming back unless they had a two as the first digit,” he told us at the L.A. Auto Show back in November. The engineers eventually did reach their goal, with the 2013 GT500 topping out at an incredible 202 mph.
Thankfully Ford brought out some cameras out during the top speed testing session at the Nardo Ring and came back with some footage of the new Shelby tearing up the banked oval at triple digit speeds. You can check out the video below.
