We can’t applaud Ford enough for what they’ve done with the 2013 Shelby GT500. SVT engineers did an incredible job developing the new engine, packing 662 horsepower and 631 lb-ft torque into the new 5.8L supercharged V8. With stats like 0-60 mph in 3.5 seconds and a top speed of more than 200 mph, the new Shelby is undoubtedly the most fastest and best performing Mustang to ever come from Ford. But one of the aspects of the previous generation GT500 that we appreciated was the ability to easily add more horsepower. A tune or a quick pulley change resulted in a significant amount of additional horsepower. Have the engineers from SVT left some room for improvement from the aftermarket in the new engine?
The guys over at Evolution Performance were curious as well and decided to find out the performance potential of the 2013 GT500. The shop recently got their hands on one of the new Shelbys and with the help of Jon Lund of Lund Racing fine-tuned the supercharged 5.8L V8 for optimal horsepower and torque. The result? A 50 horsepower (584 to 633) and 50 lb-ft torque (605 to 655) gain at the rear wheels, leaving no question that there is still plenty of room for improvement. We can’t wait to see what happens with even more modifications.
