to mini spool or not?

well i was having a good day until
i changed the engine oil then the trany fluid
got that all done the checked the rear oil and pulled the plug out and it looked like a lil Christmas tree of metal :confused:
so off with the cover and thats when i saw it :mad:
the spider gears had chunks missing wth!!!
so now i need new gears and a trac-loc rebuild or just mini spool it what would you do??

get full spool or don't get a spool

Also, if you plan to drive the car on the street a lot, I wouldn't get a spool at all unless you plan on pushing some serious power down the road, most decent traditional style LSD should hold until at least 450-500 or so at the wheels with 31spline(at that point you should worry about your bottom end instead).

Spools destroy your low speed turning radius, create uneven tire wear, and can become dangerous in rainy conditions. Although, this is all from what I've read and don't have any personal experience with them, but there are people that do daily drive them, so just do your research wisely. But in my opinion, since you're nowhere near pushing any crazy numbers, I would replace it with a regular lsd.

It doesn't take any personal experiance to know that a spool of any kind is a bad idea on a street car. Not to mention that it is against the law to have on on the street to begin with. I would find a good LSD and be done with it.

If it's anything like a detroit locker, I wouldn't use one of those on the street, especially with a manual car.

lockers aren't smooth operating like the stock trac-lok, if they lock or unlock in a corner the cars rear end will sway or worse want to push the car straight, but the one you posted about is a street version that should have minimal "on/off" charateristics. if i was you i would rebuild the trac-loc with the cobra clutch plates, thats what i did and it stays lock up tight in a straight line with the nittos heated up and is still very smooth in the turns

No type of spool is made for street driving your axle will walk out of your housing. . comming off of a highway ramp with speed would be devastating you don't want both tires spinning at the same rate on turns. . .you need a limited slip differential summitracing.com has many to choose from depending on your budget. . .good luck

leaven it stock and i have decided not to take it to the track anymore
i want to keep this car for a long time and drive it with out having to fix it all the time
