Slow turnover- Fuel Related?

Hi all!

Have a question about something that may be fuel related. Occasionally when I start my 4.6 motor (manual tranny), it cranks normally, then for some reason it is quiet for about a second when I release the key (like it didn't start) then it comes to life with no intervention from me. I don't have to crank it again. It runs fine otherwise. It sounds weird, as it is an intermittent problem that otherwise does not affect the driveability of the car. I recently got my fuel system serviced about a month ago which included a new fuel filter. Maybe a spark/timing issue? Car has just under 57K. Any and all input would be welcome. Has anyone experienced this with theirs? Maybe its part of this car's "personality", but I want to be sure. Thanks!!!

Does it crank slowly when that happens or does it crank at normal speed? Assuming that it cranks slow then you release the key and it fires up, I would say the first thing to check would be engine and chassis grounds, make sure they are tight and their mounting points corrosion free (making good contact). It could also be a starter that is getting weak.
If it is cranking at normal speed and you release the key and the engine keeps cranking until it fires then the only thing I can come up with is a faulty ignition switch.
(This is all assuming that the car is stock with no computer tune, etc)

Thanks for the reply! The engine has no computer tune...bone stock. The engine cranks normally, but it seems to go silent for just a moment then fires up willingly. Like I said, it is intermittent, so it might be a ground. I have to check that. It does not crank when I release the key.
Where can I locate the grounds? Thanks!
