Hi - My wife and I just purchased a 65 coupe. We have both always loved Mustangs and the opportunity came up to buy this one we could not pass it up. It is is pretty good condition with very little rust and while I have never restored a car before I am looking forward to the challenge. I need to repair / replace the horn and wiper motor before I can get her on the road. I know based on the VIN and 4 lug wheels that the car was originally a 6. It now has an V8. What I cannot figure out is what size/year V8 it has. Any idea on how I can tell? Any advice would be appreciated.
What he said... Its alittle tough and dirty but , if you jack it up and look up from underneather near oilpan, you wll see C6AE or D0AE etc etc. C6 means 1966, Doae means 1970, if it reads D1 1971 etc etc, same goes for the C6AE , If it reads C8AE means 1968.. Ford made a 260 V8, then went to a 289 up to 1968, In 1968 they started making a 302 J code engine
Thanks - I think they called it "poppy red" - looks more like orange now. After all the mechanical stuff and body work is done we plan on painting candy apple red.
