Justin Pawlak came into the final event of the 2011 Formula Drift season in second place in the standings, needing to take out a 13 point deficit to give the Ford Mustang its second straight series championship. Pawlak made up points on the frontrunner by finishing in the top eight, but unfortunately he fell just short in the closest Formula Drift season ever.
Pawlak started off 2011 season on a high note, taking his first Formula Drift victory ever at the season opener in Long Beach. He followed that up with a victory at the third round in Palm Beach and finished second at the next event in New Jersey. Unfortunately that wasn’t enough as he finished just 5.75 points behind Daijiro Yashihara.
2010 champion Vaughn Gittin Jr. ended his season on a rough note after being knocked out in the first round at Irwindale. He finished 11th overall in the season standings.
