No, count the flashes, its a code. Most likely what happened is one of the grounds got so corroded that is it not grounding anymore. The ground for the air bags is on the core support behind the passenger side headlight. most likely it is all green. clean up the bolt and ground and the light should go away.
It might be the grounds on the driver side bec there is some on that side of the core support too, I forget which side is which, would not take long to clean up the 2-3 bolts and wire ends on each side anyways.
Wash the bolts with baking soda first if you want, but then sand the loop the bolt goes through and the spot on the core support where the wire makes contact. sand the bottom of the bolt head where it makes contract with the wire.
This will ensure a good contact.
I had to do this on my old 96 v6 and again on my 95 gt bec of the airbag light coming on and flashing. You can count the flashes and call a dealer and they will cross ref. the flashes to tell you the code, but 95% of the time this is the problem.
