Yesterday Ford Motor Company released the first images and details for the 2015 Lincoln MKC, a new premium CUV that the company is hoping will help turn the brand around. Now, you might be asking yourself what a new Lincoln utility vehicle has to do with the Ford Mustang. Well, we’ll tell you. Buried in the press release are the first official details for the all-new 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine being offered in a Ford product for the very first time. The same engine, or at least a variant of it, will be offered in the upcoming 2015 Mustang. An upgrade compared to the EcoBoost 2.0-liter engine that comes standard in the MKC, the 2.3-liter motor will come packing 275 horsepower @ 5500 rpm and 300 lb-ft torque @ 3000 rpm according to Lincoln’s preliminary test data.
So what does this mean for the upcoming 2015 Mustang EcoBoost? Expect even more power. In general Ford puts the highest horsepower versions of its engine in the Mustang. For example, the 5.0-liter V8 produces 360 horsepower and 380 lb-ft torque in the F-150, while at the same time putting out 420 horsepower and 390 lb-ft torque in the Mustang. We would also expect the new EcoBoost 4-cylinder engine to produce slightly more horsepower than the current 305 horsepower 3.7-liter V6, especially if the turbocharged 4-cylinder will be offered as a premium upgrade to its 6-cylinder counterpart.
