1969 Vinyl Top Question

Is there a trim code or body code that would confirm a vinyl top option on a 69 mustang.

Hi,
Welcome to the site,I'm not extremely well versed in the 69's but the code for A GRANDE is 65E on the door tag. If your car has that code than it definitely had a vinyl top as vinyl tops were part of the Grande package. The fact that your car is a 69 makes you fortunate in that you can send away for what's called a Marti report which would tell you exactly what options and features your car had when new. I know they have different levels for different prices. Sadly as a big time 65-66 Guy the reports are only available for 67-newer cars. Is your car together or taken apart? I have a 69 Coupe that was built with a vinyl top, but when I bought it someone took it off & filled the holes for the mouldings. If your car is apart I can help you figure it out, let me know. Where was your car built? Did it have the body buck tag?

The car is togather. The car was built in San Jose, CA. The origional owner told me the car did not come with a vinyl top. My question comes from that the car does have a chrome molding in the area where the bottom of the vinyl top would. The door tag is 65A F 2A 15G 72 6 W.

On your car does it have the body buck tag by the l/s hood hinge screwed to the rear inner fender panel? Mine was built here in NJ it mine has one, I dont know if the San Jose plant used them or not. My understanding is that if the car has the moulding it originally came with a vinyl top. The other way you can tell is if you remove the outside black upper rear window moulding & look at the part of the roof where it bends down to go towards the rear window there should be a small hole on each side which were drilled there by the factory so they would know where to line up the seams in the vinyl top at installation time.
