myslow04gtits gna be close its sad i dont know if id rather it be totalled or fixed
ROUSH 4I completely understand this.......Sad decision to make. Weigh all the factors if it comes to that. If they say totalled ya got to let the stang go. They wont authorize repair.
On EdgeTotaled is just a percentage, which is normally at 75-80%, not necessary the actual state of a vehicle. Ie... A fender and door repair would total out my great running 1991 Honda. If there's a chance of frame damage, it'll be totaled. 2 choices: let them take it and you get a check or you " buy it back" and fix it yourself. Also, if the accident is not clear cut as to fault, it may take you a while to get your $. If they're both a % at fault, you will get % of $ from both parties. Not fun.
On EdgeIf your car wasn't that great, this could be a blessing in disguise.
mustang88If the door wont open maybe they will say your door frame is bent and that will bring up the damage alot. Atleast thats what they said after a drunk hit me and mine wouldnt open. Totaled car out said it would of cost more than the car was worth just to repair the door frame.
TDHJSilver06There is always unseen damage underneath the plastic that pops back after an accident! Have to actaully pull off the outer "skin" of fender, bumper cover and hood to start looking at all the metal of the unibody. The unibody won't pop back it will bend or crease. Look at door gaps, hood gap by wipers, look down each body line from rear of car to see if front may have shifted to one side. NEVER NEVER accept estimate if the parts are not removed to see damage below! I think those photo estimates on your phone sent to insurance company are a joke! They call them crumple zones for a reason!
myslow04gti dont owe any money on the car and i think it did shift because of the door situation.... i heard i have to have a claims adjuster come to see it from the other persons insurance but how is a claims adjuster going to know exactly how much damage is done... my car is at a mechanic thats where i got my car towed to they said they were going to help me out so hopefully thats what happens.......... does anyone know if i can take things from my car like my wheels and stereo i have the original wheels an original stereo......thanks guys i truly appreciate everyone reaching out and giving insight that car meant alot to me mommy an daddy didnt buy it i did so its disappointing but im glad to see you guys looking it out
myslow04gtand on top of that i was trying to sell it this would happen to me im not sure if this is good or bad for me trying to transition to a gt
mattstangDo you have the receipts for all the mods that you did to it? I believe they are going to offer you blue book for it without the mods. You need to let them know that your car was in excellent condition. Maybe someone on this forum can add to this.
TDHJSilver06The insurance company will always low ball you! You own the car so until you agree on amount of damage and if it is fixable it's still your car! Receipts for all mods help prove price to replace or fix. Unless they offer price you want for everything you have into the car then don't settle. It's your car you choose to fix or replace not them! It may be easier to go through your own insurance then have them go after the other company for reimbursement. Sucks that you have to fight for your money and your car!
On Edgeyes it's your car, but you DO NOT choose to total or repair, the insurance company chooses to total or repair. most insurance companies will give you fair market value.it sounds like the car will be totaled, it sounds like you wanted to sell the car, so like I said, it could be a blessing in disguise.
CalypsoIn my opinion you were trying to sell anyway for a GT... i would hope it is totaled and walk away with the cash.. if it isnt totaled and it does get fixed you will find trying to sell it that much harder due to no longer having a clean car fax and if it is totaled and u buy it back and fix it then it will now have a salvaged title.. which with it being just a v6 no one will show any interest in a salvage title v6... go to sleep tonight and pray for it to be totaled!!! put that cash towards a GT
